Carnegie Hall Debut on Nov. 15: El Amor Brujo

Dutch Kills Gallery on July 11

Dutch Kills Gallery is pleased to present Cast Shadows, a solo exhibition of new works by Niki Kriese. Among the grouping of sculpture and video, there will be a series of special performances: a set of scores by Audra Wolowiec featuring Maria Johnson, flute and Lauren Edman, voice and cinematic projections by Yuka Otani.

The opening reception is Saturday July 11, from 6pm-10pm with performances starting at 9pm.

Upcoming Lincoln Center Performance on June 5

On June 5 I’ll be playing a tune or two with the LA-based band, Princeton (see above photo), who will be in town to play at the Virginia Woolf Conference. My friend Lynn Tsai is also going to be rocking out on flute that night.

We’re going on at 8pm in the Pope Auditorium in Lincoln Center – more details to follow later!

6th Annual LISMA International Music Competition

Long Island Conservatory/ SUNY Old Westbury is proud to host the 6th annual LISMA International Music Competition this summer from August 13th through the 15th, 2009. For the past six years, the LISMA Foundation has been searching for incredibly talented youth in the performing arts. The competition is designed to attract the finest performers world-wide.

The competition is sponsored by th LISMA Foundation as well as SAMSUNG, Asiana Airlines, HSBC, Flushing Savings Bank, Woori America Bank, Steinway & Sons, and the Korea Times.

Category A: 16-21 years old
Category B: under 16 years old

Strings
Category A: 16-21 years old

Competition 2009 Schedule

1. Preliminary rounds
Applicants may send a CD/ Video Tape (VHS)/ DVD as a Preliminary Test performance. See “Application Requirements”for details.

Applicants who cannot submit a recording or prefers a live audition may send an application by July 11, 2009 and make an appointment for a live audition. Live auditions will take place at Albert Hall, Long Island Conservatory. The following dates are available:
JULY 18, 2009 2:00PM
JULY 25, 2009 2:00PM

2. Final rounds: Long Island Conservatory
Final rounds will take place at Albert Hall, Long Island Conservatory

August 13, 2009 – Strings/ Winds
August 14, 2009 – Piano/ Voice
August 15, 2009 – Award Ceremony and Winners’ Concert

All contestants must perform from memory in the Final Round.

Award Ceremony and Winners’ Concert will be held at Maguire Hall, SUNY Old Westbury on August 15, 2009 at 4:00pm. Only the Grand Prix and First Prize from each category will perform on the stage.

All finalists must attend the Award Ceremony on August 15, 2009 in order to receive his/her prize. Any Honoree who fails to attend this ceremony will have to forfeit his/her award.

Application Requirements and Rules for Competition

Deadline for Application: Postmarked on or before July 11, 2009.
All contestants’ age will be applied on July 11, 2009.

All applications must include the following:
-Application Form with two ID-photo(2×2) of the applicant
-Proof of date of birth (e.g. copy of birth certificate, passport, etc.)
-Non-refundable application fee: $90.00. (Bank certified check or money order only, Check made payable to LISMA Foundation )
-CD , DVD or videotape (VHS) recording for Preliminary Test (if not auditioning live)

All application fees are non-refundable. CD/VHS/DVD recordings will not be returned.

Applicants will be notified of acceptance by mail ONLY beginning July 18, 2009.
