Classical Music
Maria Johnson is a versatile flutist who has appeared at such venues as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, Le Poisson Rouge, and Roulette, as well as in China, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, and Sweden. She has premiered over 100 works for chamber ensemble and solo flute, and has collaborated extensively with young and emerging composers across the United States and Europe.
Maria is a strong, experienced doubler who frequently performs concerts on all four flutes, including piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute.
An avid educator, Maria has taught on faculty at the Kaufman Center’s Lucy Moses School, presented contemporary music workshops at Boston Conservatory, Bates College, Illinois College, Illinois State University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and New York University.
Maria holds a B.M. from the University of Kentucky (2006) and a M.A. from New York University (2007), where she studied with Gary Schocker and Robert Dick.
In her spare time, she enjoys metalsmithing, gardening and running.
